FAQ

Good to know

What is Hej Tide?

Hej Tide is a community in Malmö built around cold water, good company and getting outside.

We meet every Wednesday morning for a dip in the sea, followed by hot coffee and a chance to meet some new faces.

When and where do you meet?

Every Wednesday morning, somewhere along Malmö’s coastline.

We move around a little, so check our latest location via the homepage/ Instagram for the latest meeting spot and any updates before heading out.

Is it free?

Yes! Our weekly morning dips are completely free, and we’d like to keep them that way.

Sometimes we organise extra activities, like sauna sessions, that have a cost attached. We’ll always let you know beforehand, and there’s never any pressure to join those.

Can I come alone?

Please do! Lots of people come on their own, and it’s one of the best ways to meet someone new.

We know turning up somewhere full of strangers can feel a little awkward. But that’s kind of the point. Come say hello!

Do I have to get in the water?

Absolutely not.

You’re more than welcome to come along, have a coffee, meet some people and cheer everyone else on from dry land.

There’s no pressure to dip, and no prizes for staying in the longest. Just showing up counts.

I've never tried cold dipping before. Can I still join?

Of course! Everyone has to start somewhere.

You don’t need to be an experienced cold-water swimmer, and you definitely don’t need to be particularly brave. Take it at your own pace, listen to your body and never feel pressured to go in.

Cold water can be a shock to the system, so please make sure it’s safe for you before taking the plunge.

What should I bring?

Not much! Just a few essentials:

  • Swimwear and a towel
  • Something warm and easy to change into afterwards
  • Warm socks, shoes and a hat (especially in winter!)
  • A mug for your coffee, if you have one

And maybe a little courage if it’s your first time.

How long does it last?

The dip itself is usually pretty quick, especially when the water gets chilly.

Afterwards, we hang around for coffee and a chat. Some people head straight off to work, while others stay a little longer.

You’re welcome to join for as much or as little as you like.

Do I need to sign up?

For our regular Wednesday dips, just show up!

For special events or activities with limited spaces, we might ask you to register in advance. We’ll always share the details on Instagram.

Is everyone welcome?

Every body, every background, every experience level.

Whether you’ve lived in Malmö your whole life or moved here last week, whether you’re 20 or 70, coming with friends or arriving on your own, there’s a place for you here.

All we ask is that you come with kindness and respect for the people around you.

What happens if the weather is bad?

We’re pretty happy to embrace a little rain, wind and cold. It’s part of the fun.

But the sea deserves respect. If conditions are unsafe, we’ll change the plan or cancel the dip.

Keep an eye on Instagram for updates, especially when the weather looks a little wild.

Is cold dipping safe?

Cold-water swimming comes with risks, particularly in winter.

We encourage everyone to know their limits, enter the water slowly and carefully, stay close to the exit and never feel pressured to stay in longer than feels right.

Our gatherings are community meetups, not supervised swimming sessions. Everyone takes responsibility for their own safety, and it’s always okay to skip the dip.

Can I bring a friend?

Of course. Bring a friend, your partner, your neighbour or that person you’ve been meaning to catch up with.

Or come alone and leave knowing a few more people than you did before.

Still got a question?

Send us a message on Instagram. We’re always happy to help.

Otherwise, sea you Wednesday! 🧡
